NATIONAL WATER ACT (36/1998): LIFTING OF WATER RESTRICTIONS FOR VARIOUS STAND-ALONE DAMS AND SYSTEMS IN LIMPOPO, MPUMALANGA, NORTH WEST AND FREE STATE

The Director-General of the Department of Water and Sanitation has, in terms of section 63 read with section 72 of the NWA, lifted the water restrictions of the Vondo Dam, the Nsami and the Glen Alpine stand-alone dams in Limpopo Province; the Buffelskloof and the Ohrigetad stand-alone dams in Mpumalanga Province; the Koster Dam, the Lindleyspoort Dam, the Madikwe Dam, the Marico-Bosveld & Kromellenboog Dam, the Molatedi Dam, the Pella Dam and the Swartruggens Dam in North West Province; and the Gariep Dam, the Vanderkloof Dams and the Armenia Dam in the Free State Province.

MINERAL AND PETROLEUM RESOURCES DEVELOPMENT ACT (28/2002): PROHIBITION OR RESTRICTION OF PROSPECTING OR MINING IN TERMS OF SECTION 49(1) OF THE ACT

The Minister of Mineral Resources has, in terms of section 49(1) of the MPRDA, declared – An 18-month moratorium on the Transworld Energy and Mineral Resources SA (Pty) Ltd application and the lodging of any further prospecting or mining applications in the area of Xolobeni; That no further applications for prospecting or mining authorisations will be accepted on the following mine area until such time as the moratorium is lifted - On an area of State land situated in the Xolobeni area, known as mining blocks Mpahlane, Mnyameni, Kwanyana, Sikombe and Mtentu, within the Magisterial District of Bizana in the Eastern Cape Province; To commission independent social specialist/s to conduct an independent social specialist study, to interact with the community members (both pro- and anti-mining groups) and investigate the deeply rooted cause of the problems and document the causes and possible solutions.
