NATIONAL ENVIRONMENTAL MANAGEMENT: PROTECTED AREAS ACT (57/2003): ECONOMIC DEVELOPMENT, TOURISM AND ENVIRONMENTAL AFFAIRS IN KWAZULU-NATAL

The CEO of Ezemvelo KZN Wildlife has, in terms of section 33(1) of the NEMPAA, given notice of his intention to request the MEC for Kwa-Zulu Natal Economic Development, Tourism and Environmental Affairs to re-declare the areas of the following Nature Reserves in terms of section 23 of the NEMPAA – Entumeni Nature Reserve (Umlalazi); Harold Johnson Nature Reserve (Mandeni); Lake Eteza Nature Reserve (Mbonambi); Nkandla Complex (comprising: Dhlabe Nature Reserve, Edodweni Nature Reserve, Mndunduzeli Nature Reserve, Mome Nature Reserve, Nkandla Nature Reserve, Sibudeni Nature Reserve and Vungwini Nature Reserve); Ntinini Nature Reserve (Abaqulusi); Skyline Nature Reserve (Hibiscus Coast); and Solar Cliffs Nature Reserve (Umtshezi).

NATIONAL ENVIRONMENTAL MANAGEMENT ACT (107/1998): PUBLICATION FOR COMMENTS: EXCLUSIONS AND MINIMUM STANDARDS FOR LISTED ACTIVITIES TO BE EXCLUDED FROM THE REQUIREMENT TO OBTAIN AN ENVIRONMENTAL AUTHORISATION

The MEC for the Gauteng Department of Economic Development, Environment, Agriculture and Rural Development has given notice of her intention to, in terms of sections 24(2)(d) and 24(10) of the NEMA, to publish the Gauteng Provincial Environmental Management Framework’s Exclusions and Minimum Standards for the listed activities to be excluded from the requirement to obtain an environmental authorisation.

The MEC for the Gauteng Department of Economic Development, Environment, Agriculture and Rural Development has, in terms of regulation 7(3) of the Gauteng Waste Information Regulations, 2004, published the list of persons registered on the Gauteng Waste Information System database.

ENVIRONMENTAL MANAGEMENT: PROTECTED AREAS ACT (57/2003) (AS AMENDED): DECLARATION NOTICE: NATURE RESERVES AND PROTECTED ENVIRONMENTS

The MEC for the Eastern Cape Department of Economic Development, Environmental Affairs and Tourism has, in terms of section 28(1)(a) and (b) and section 33 (1) (a) of the NEMPAA, declared the following nature reserves, as further detailed in the schedule to this notice – Baviaanskloof Nature Reserve; Sam Knott Nature Reserve; Skilderkrantz Nature Reserve; and Cedarville Protected Environment.

The Minister of Environmental Affairs has issued norms and standards for the management of protected areas in South Africa in terms of section 11 of the NEM:PAA.

NATIONAL WATER ACT (36/1998): PONGOLA-MZIMKHULU WATER MANAGEMENT AREA: LIMITING THE USE OF WATER IN TERMS OF ITEM 6 OF SCHEDULE 3 FOR IRRIGATION, DOMESTIC AND INDUSTRIAL PURPOSES FROM VARIOUS DAMS AND RIVER SYSTEMS IN KWAZULU-NATAL

The Acting Director-General of the DWS has, in terms of item 6(1) of Schedule 3 of the NWA, limited the use of water for irrigation, domestic and industrial purposes from the following systems situated in Kwazulu-Natal, the details of which restrictions are set out in in this notice - Hluhluwe Dam and river system; Klipfontein Dam and White Mfolozi System; Goedertrouw Dam and Mhlathuze River System; Buffalo River System downstream of Zaaihoek Dam, and the Tugela River system downstream of the Driel Barrage and Spionkop Dam; Mooi River downstream of the Mearns Weir and the Bushmans River system downstream of the Wagendrift Dam; Lake Merthley System; Hazelmere Dam and Mdloti river system including the oThangathi river system; Mgeni System including the Mooi River and Little Mooi River to the Mearns Weir; EJ Smith and Umzinto Dams, the Umzinto river system and the Mpokonyoni river system; Ixopo Farm Dam and nver system upstream of the Ixopo Farm Dam; and Chrystal Springs Dam.

NATIONAL HERITAGE RESOURCES ACT (25/1999): DECLARATION OF THE GRAVE OF DR JAMES MOROKA AND MR THOMAS MAPIKELA AS NATIONAL HERITAGE SITES

The South African Heritage Resources Agency has, in terms of section 27(5) of the NHRA, declared the Grave of Dr James Moroka, located in the Thaba Nchu Cemetry 5162 Brant Street and the Grave of Mr Thomas Mapikela, located in the Hereo's Acre in Phahameng Cemetry, Bloemfontein as National Heritage Sites.

The Minister of Environmental Affairs has, in terms of section 53(1A) of the NEMAQA, made regulations for the procedure and criteria to be followed in the determination of an administrative fine in terms of section 22A of the NEMAQA.

NATIONAL HERITAGE RESOURCES ACT (25/1999): DECLARATION OF HERITAGE RESOURCES AS NATIONAL HERITAGE SITES, KLASIES RIVER CAVE COMPLEX AND MALAPA PALAEO-ANTHROPOLOGICAL SITE

The South African Heritage Resources Agency has, in terms of section 27 of the NHRA, declared the following National Heritage Sites - The Klasies River Cave Complex National Heritage Site consisting of the archaeological sites, the landscape and natural features of cultural significance and structures situated on the farms Klasies River Mouth, Geelhoutboom West Annex 664 and Sandput Annex 665, including a buffer zone extending into the intertidal zone, within the Kou-Kamma Local Municipality, Humansdorp Magisterial District, Eastern Cape, and Malapa Palaeo-Anthropological Site consisting of the palaeo-anthropological sites, the landscape and natural features of cultural significance and structures situated within the John Nash Nature Reserve, Cradle of Humankind World Heritage Area, West Rand District Municipality, Gauteng.

Section 11 of NEMA requires national and provincial government departments listed in Schedules 1 and 2 of NEMA, to prepare Environmental Implementation Plans (EIP) and/or Environmental Management Plans (EMP) at least every 5 years.
