NATIONAL WATER ACT (36/1998): CALEDON MODDER SUBSYSTEM-LIMITING THE USE OF WATER IN TERMS OF ITEM 6 OF SCHEDULE 3 FOR URBAN AND IRRIGATION PURPOSES FROM THE DAMS WITHIN THE CALEDON-MODDER SUBSYSTEM

The Acting Director General of the Department of Water and Sanitation has, in terms of item 6(1) of Schedule 3 to the NWA, published a notice to limit the use of water in the Caleddon Modder subsystem as follows - 30% restriction on water use for Domestic and Industrial supply to the Mangaung Metropolitan Supply area (including other small towns supplied from Caledon-Modder subsystem), and the towns of Ladybrand within the Mantsopa Municipality and Ficksburg within the Setsoto Municipality as well as Fouriesburg within the Dihlabeng Municipality; 75% restrictions on the use of water for irrigation purposes in the Modder River sub-catchment upstream of Maselspoort Dam; 75% restrictions on the use of water for Irrigation purposes in the Catedon and Little Caledon River sub-catchment upstream of Welbedacht Dam; 100% restriction on the use of water for Irrigation purposes In the Caledon and Little Caledon River sub-catchment upstream of Welbedacht Dam when water is released from the Lesotho Highlands Water Project; The limitations apply from the date of this notice until further notice.

NATIONAL WATER ACT (36/1998): OLIFANTS WATER MANAGEMENT AREA-LIMITING THE USE OF WATER

The Acting Director-General of the Department of Water Affairs has, in terms of item 6(1) of Schedule 3 to the NWA, published a notice to limit the use of water in the Klein Olifants River upstream of the Middelburg by 15% restriction to 30 ML per day.

NATIONAL WATER ACT (36/1998): ORANGE RIVER SYSTEM-LIMITING THE USE OF WATER

The Acting Director General of the Department of Water and Sanitation has, in terms of item 6(1) of Schedule 3 to the NWA, published a notice to limit the use of water in the Orange River system as follows – 10% restriction on water use for Domestic and Industrial supply from the main stem of the Orange River, Irrigation Schemes and Transfer Schemes supplied from the Orange River; 15% restrictions on the use of water for Irrigation purposes in the main stem of Orange River, Irrigation Schemes and Transfer Schemes supplied from the Orange River.

NATIONAL WATER ACT (36/1998): GENERAL AUTHORISATION FOR WATER USES AS DEFINED IN SECTION 21(C) OR SECTION 21(1)

The Acting Director-General of the Department of Water and Sanitation has published the General Authorisation in terms of section 39(1) of the NWA applicable to the water uses in terms of sections 21(c) and (i) of the NWA pertaining to impeding or diverting the flow of water in a watercourse and altering the beds, banks, course or characteristics of a watercourse respectively.

NATIONAL WATER ACT (36/1998): INTEGRATED VAAL RIVER SYSTEM- LIMITING THE USE OF WATER FOR URBAN AND IRRIGATION PURPOSES IN THE CATCHMENT AREAS OF THE DAMS SUPPLING THE INTEGRATED VAAL RIVER SYSTEM AND FROM THE SYSTEM

The Acting Director-General of the Department of Water and Sanitation has, in terms of item 6(1) of Schedule 3 to the NWA, limited the taking of water from the Integrated Vaal River System by the urban and irrigation users as follows – 15% of curtailment on urban water use in the aforementioned areas; and 20% of curtailment on irrigation water use in the aforementioned areas.

The Minister of Environmental Affairs has, in terms of section 28(1) read with section 28(5) of the NEM:WA, given notice to require the Paper & Packaging Industry, Electrical & Electronic Equipment Industry and Lighting Industry to prepare and submit their industry waste management plans for approval as further detailed in the schedule to this notice.
