The Moses Kotane Local Municipality has adopted the Environmental By-law. The purpose of the by-law is to provide for a framework for environmental governance within the Municipality by, inter alia, providing for the prohibition, restriction and control of activities in the municipal area that are likely to have a detrimental effect on the environment.

The Moretele Local Municipality has adopted the Waste Management By-law. The purpose of the by-law is to provide the manner in which the Municipality can manage and regulate waste management activities so as to ensure that waste is avoided, or where it cannot be altogether avoided; minimized, reused, recycled, recovered and disposed of in an environmental sound manner.

The Minister for Local Government, Environmental Affairs and Development Planning in the Western Cape has given notice that the time period for the submission of comments in respect of the Draft Breede River Estuarine Management Plan published in terms of the NEM:ICMA is extended until 21 October 2016.
