NATIONAL WATER ACT (36/1998): LIMITING THE USE OF WATER IN THE CATCHMENT AREA ABOVE AND BELOW CLANWILLIAM DAM

The Acting Director-General of the DWS has, in terms of Item 6(1) of Schedule 3 read with section 72(1) of the NWA, limited the taking of water from the Olifants River Catchment as follows - (a)        At least 40% curtailment on all industrial water use in the aforementioned areas, (b)        At least 50% curtailment of all domestic water use in the aforementioned areas, and (c)        At least 60% curtailment of all agricultural water use of the aforementioned areas.

NATIONAL ENVIRONMENTAL MANAGEMENT: WASTE ACT (59/2008): CALL ON TYRE INDUSTRY TO PREPARE AND SUBMIT AN INDUSTRY WASTE TYRE MANAGEMENT PLAN TO THE MINISTER FOR APPROVAL

The Minister of Environmental Affairs has, in terms of section 28(1) read with section 31 of the NEM:WA, called on tyre producers to prepare and submit industry waste tyre management plans for the Minister’s approval, as set out in the schedule to this notice.

The Minister of Environmental Affairs has, in terms of section 69(1)(j) read with section 73 of the NEM:WA, given notice of her intention to make regulations regarding the control of the import and export of waste as set out in the schedule to this notice.

NATIONAL ENVIRONMENTAL MANAGEMENT: WASTE ACT (59/2008): AMENDMENT TO THE LIST OF WASTE MANAGEMENT ACTIVITIES THAT HAVE, OR ARE LIKELY TO HAVE, A DETRIMENTAL EFFECT ON THE ENVIRONMENT

The Minister of Environmental Affairs has, in terms of section 19(2)(b) of the NEM:WA, amended the list of waste management activities that have, or are likely to have a detrimental effect on the environment published under GNR 921 of 29 November 2013 (“GNR 921”) by – The deletion of the waste management activity listed under Category A of GNR 921 “the sorting, shredding, grinding, crushing, screening or bailing of general waste at a facility that has an operational area in excess of 1000 m2”; and The insertion of the waste management activity under Category C of GNR 921 of “the sorting, shredding, grinding, crushing, screening or baling of general waste at a waste facility that has an operational area that is 1000m2 and more”.

The Minister of Environmental Affairs has, in terms of section 7(2)(a) of the NEM:WA, set National Norms and Standards for the Sorting, Grinding, Crushing, Screening and Baling of General Waste (“Norms and Standards”).

NOTICE IN TERMS OF THE WATER SERVICES BY-LAW

The Stellenbosch Municipality has, in accordance with section 84 of the Stellenbosch Municipal Water Services By-Laws, 2017, given notice that it has moved to a Level 5 Water Restriction with effect from 22 September 2017 and the restrictions of water usage as set out in this notice are applicable to all customers as from such date.
