The Knysna Local Municipality has adopted the Water and Sanitation By-Law, which provides for the regulation of the water use and sanitation within the jurisdiction of the municipality. The by-law, inter alia, provides for the conditions and limitation of the discharge allowed into water streams and for the long term maintenance of the sanitation services.
