The Minister of Water and Environmental Affairs has, in terms of section 78(3) of the NWA established the Pongola-Umzimkulu catchment management agency. The area of operation of the Pongola-Umzimkulu catchment management agency includes the previous Thukela, Mvoti to Umzimkulu water management area and Mhlathuze catchment.
