The Minister of Environmental Affairs has, in terms of section 43 of the NEM:PAA, published the Cultural Heritage Survey Guidelines and Assessment Tools for Protected Areas in South Africa, as set out in the schedule to this notice.
The objectives of the Guideline is to, inter alia –
- Support the implementation of the NHRA in the identification and protection of places of cultural heritage significance in Protected Areas; and
- To provide basic means of ensuring that those who manage and work in Protected Areas are aware of the cultural heritage resources in their Protected Areas and have knowledge of the value (significance) of the cultural heritage resources in the Protected Area.
